Father's Day 2010

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Father's Day 2010, we spent the morning saying our goodbyes to all the Iowa family - parting is always such a sad part of visiting the ones you love so much... But Mark was able to see his dad for a little while on Father's Day and give him his gift of cigars. Grandpa George loves chewing on those things. When we started walking out of his room, grandpas eyes filled with tears and I had to walk a little faster down the hallway because I just can't stand that part. We spent the next several hours traveling back to Phoenix and when we arrived back home, the kids were there waiting to spend some time with Mark for his Father's Day. I tell you our kids are the best, we love and appreciate them soooo much. Mark wanted to go to Oregano's in Tempe for pizza so off we went to enjoy another family outing. We missed having Santana, Shamara and Ken, as always it's bitter sweet when any of our gang is missing. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY MARK 1 & MARK 2, WE LOVE YOU AND ARE VERY PROUD OF THE FATHER'S YOU ARE...

The Bee's Nest

When we arrive home from our Iowa trip, Mark spotted this swarm of bees trying to build a nest right in our front courtyard. Why can't guys just leave the wild animals alone? Why do they always feel they have to try to interfere instead of letting the professionals come and do it? They wouldn't even give me a chance to call the 1-800 number. So after they pissed the bees off, guess what starting happening??? The bees started getting into the house, we're not sure how but we think either through the door jam/cracks or through the vents...

Mark's 30th Reunion - Class of 1980

Saturday, June 19, 2010

We spent the weekend in Iowa, visiting family and attending Mark's 30th year class reunion. We had a great time and Mark was very excited to see old friends from high school whom he hadn't seen for 30 years. It's kind of funny attending these as the spouse when you weren't a part of that group, but I kept busy taking lots of pictures and at some point became the official photographer. I have to say Mark is aging really well... The highlite of the event for the kids was when we got to tour Mark's old high school. He was so proud to show them his old locker, class rooms, state football trophies, etc. and boy do we have lots more stories to tell now. LOL

Iowa Family

Thursday, June 17, 2010

We had an early morning flight scheduled to fly to Iowa but it was a little different experience this time. We flew on Allegiant Airlines out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport located in Mesa, Arizona. Mark flew once before with them and enjoyed the experience and wanted to do so again this time for two reasons: 1) it's a straight through flight and 2) the fares are much less expensive. The only real downside to flying Allegiant is that from our house it only takes us 5 minutes to get to Sky Harbor, but to get to this airport it's almost an hours drive. So off we went, to visit family and to attend Mark's 30th year class reunion...

TRAVELING TO IOWA:

Lots and lots of family, just the thing to pull on my heart strings. Mark didn't tell very many of his family members that he was coming to town, so to say they were surprise is a BIG understatement. He was the cause of many tears but a whole lot of joy. Mark doesn't make it back home to visit as much as I do with my family in Louisiana, something he definitely needs to work on. The years are passing to quickly and you can't ever get back what you're missing out on...

The Aquarium with GiGi & MiMi

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Yeah, finally our 1st date with our oldest grandchild. We have talked about doing something with Trey for sometime now and had planned on going to the Aquarium upon GiGi's recommendation some weeks ago but you know how life is... But today was our day, and what a great time we three had, so much so that we are going to attempt to have a GiGi & MiMi day once a month.

Squaw Peak Family Hike

Saturday, June 12, 2010

This morning we gather the gang together at 4:30am and headed out to hike Squaw Peak. I think it was much harder getting them all out of bed at such an early hour, than it was getting them to the top of the peak. They all made it, huffing and puffing but nobody gave up. It was a gorgeous morning, a little bit chilly when we started out with the wind blowing a nice breeze the entire time. Another great family outing: Rating = Priceless Memories. 2 weeks Camelback!!!

BREAKFAST AT EINSTEIN'S AFTER THE HIKE:

Saying Goodbye

Friday, June 11, 2010

What do you say in the last moments before you separate when saying goodbye shatters your world? And how many times can your heart shatter into a million pieces? :(  I don't want to leave her here. I want her to come back to Arizona. I hate, I hate, I hate this soooo much. It hurts! And why did I grab only 2 pieces of kleenex, like that was gonna ever come close to being enough? I need the whole box. I'm surrounded by other passengers who probably think I'm insane crying like this. I'm starting to get a headache; I can't talk and it hurts to swallow...
but still the words have to be said, so I'll say it this way: Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have you at a distance. And no matter how deep the torment of departing is I would never pass up the opportunity to be with you so remember goodbyes are not forever nor or they the end, they simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again! MOMMY!

What's in a Name?

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

                 The Woodlands
I just added a new post to Santana's page or take a look to the left column, scroll down a bit and find her name under Take A Look Into Our Lives.

What's in a Name?

I'm here in Houston, Texas visiting Santana for the week and wanted to share how beautiful and unique the community she lives in is designed.  It's called The Woodlands and as you will see from the pictures it was named perfectly. Every street in the community is lined with trees so that no houses, businesses, hosptials, not even the mall is visible from the street.

Instead this is all you see from the street view as you are driving by, the signs of the business, hosptial, etc.
You drive a few feet behind the trees and there you will see all the buildings.

Here are some familar places:Bank of America, McDonald's, a Hospital and a Hotel...

And here's a look from the opposite side: Jack-in-the-Box "Street View"

and a "Behind the Scene" View
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL and a very creative community concept and definitely not something I've ever seen in Arizona.

One Man's Junk

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

About a week ago Shanel and I had some time to kill while Sabriya was in afternoon dance classes and we discovered Merchant Square in Chandler and we fell in love. It's a huge in door flea market basically, where you are literally looking thru other peoples "OLD" stuff but you know what they say, "One man's junk is another man's treasure," or woman. Anyways I found this old antique vanity table and mirror set that I just knew would fit perfectly in the entry way of my bedroom. Let's see what you think, take a look...

Here's a picture of the set that my new/old treasure has replaced. Can you blame me for having to have the new one? Doesn't it fit perfectly? Wasn't it made especially for that exact spot in my room I LOVE IT!

Family Hike

Saturday, June 5, 2010

We took a family hike across South Mountain this morning and had a great time. After two hours we were all pretty worn out and just ready to see the end of the trail. 104 degrees was the high today but we did it - hot, sweaty, dirty, hungry, thirsty, (we ran out of water trying to keep BIG hydrated). There were several friendly people along the trail who gave us their water for BIG as well, it makes you feel good to know there is still kindness and generosity in this world. After the hike we hurried home to shower and make breakfast. GREAT DAY GUYS, WAY TO HANG IN THERE!

POOR BIG AFTER THE HIKE:

Brothers

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass." "We're not raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising boys." ~Harmon Killebrew

Mark 2's 26th Birthday

Happy 26th Birthday Mark 2! The day that God gave me you I got a precious gift indeed which has blessed me many years through. As I look back in time I remember the little boy you were; today I see the special man you are; & tomorrow I look forward to the precious son you will always be. Our memories I hold safe and dear in my heart and I thank God for the day that you were born. Love Mom!

We had a small impromptu birthday gathering for Mark 2's 26th Birthday. We gathered the troops at Honey Bear's since he was working and had cheese cake and opened birthday gifts.

Chuckwalla

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Reggie once again found these creatures playing around in our driveway preventing him from getting into his car, there were about 5 of them and he had to call for backup...

The Chuckwalla (less commonly chuckawalla) is a large lizard found primarily in arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Chuckwallas are a stocky wide-bodied lizard with a flattened midsection and prominent belly. Their tails are thick, tapering to a blunt tip. Loose folds of skin characterize the neck and sides of the body, which is covered in small, coarsely granular scales. The common chuckwalla (Sauromalus ater) measures 40 cm in length.
