A Day of THANKS

Friday, November 25, 2011

My girls started their day of by going for an early morning Thanksgivng "Sister" hike across the South Mountain pass to burn up some calories before our Thanksgiving meal and to make some beautiful memories of special time together...

"A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost..."

"A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life."

"A sister shares childhood memories and grown-up dreams."

"When sisters stand shoulder to shoulder, who stands a chance against them?"

"When mom and dad don't understand, a sister always will."

"Our roots say we're sisters, our hearts say we're friends."

"Sisters is probably the most competitive relationship within the family, but once the sisters are grown, it becomes the strongest relationship."

"To the outside world we all grow old. But not to our sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time."

SMOKING TURKEYS @ HONEY BEAR'S

While the girls where off hiking, I went to join Mark 1 and Mark 2 who pretty much spent the night at Honey Bear's smoking turkeys. They went in at midnight on Wednesday and smoked about 80 turkeys which we handed out until 12 noon on Thanksgiving Day.  The girls stopped by after their hike for a little while to see what we were up too...

Mark 1 says that this "Big Boy" Smoking Machine can hold about 50+ birds and that they have to stay in the fire for at least 4 hours.

Here are all the smoked birds wrapped and ready for pickup...

Mark 2 and good friend Mike Schugg pulling more turkeys off the smoker...

Of course "my girls" can never miss a photo opportunity :) :) :)

THANKSGIVING DINNER

After all of our customers were served we went home to spend a little time with the family, making a few more memories and trying to capture some of those special moments on film...

Reggie rough housing with Boston.

Merry Christmas Ken!  Shamara presented Ken with his Christmas gift a month early because it's a trip to New York in a couple of weeks.  From what I understand it's something that he's wanted to do... can you tell from his facial expression that he's not quite believing this is "for real."

MiMi and Malaysia on her very 1st Thanksgiving!

Daddy Ken feeding Malaysia her very own Thanksgiving Feast.
Today she was introduced to RICE Cereal.

She seemed to enjoy it, but it was funny watching Ken give her these really big spoon fulls of cereal and it was all over her little face.  I tried to tell him to give her just little bits at a time but he insisted that "that's what the bib was for to catch all the extras." He's such a Great DAD!

Malaysia & her Mommie  -  A daughter is a gift of love.

MiMi and her precious grand"boys" Trey & Boston

Okay, I'm not quite sure what got into Trey, but he saw me taking pictures and he says "MiMi, take my picture." and he stood there with this smile.  Shannon and I were a little bit stunned because for about a year now every time we try to take a picture of him he'll do anything but look at the  camera including running in the oppostie direction.  I know it's probably partly because his Mom and MiMi are picture crazy but one day he'll love looking back on all those captured moments of his life.

COUSINS... those childhood playmates who grow up to be forever friends.

Malaysia and Aunite Tana

WHOOPS!  Mark 2, Shannon, Trey & Boston still had hours to go before their Thanksgivng Celebration was over but oops Boston took a spill in the mud left over from the little bit of rain we had today. We stripe him, did a quick hand scrubbing and threw it all in the dryer and he was good as new and ready to go celebrate at GiGi's house.

Malaysia and Auntie Nellie

The rock of our family still standing up after pulling that all nighter smoking turkeys and preparing our meal which I didn't even take get to take any pictures of.  But we had smoked turkey (could you guess) ham, dressing, green bean casserole, yams, mac-n-cheese... and way too many delicious desserts.

These are all mines and I love them soooo much and I am soooo proud of each of them for all their accomplishments in life.  They are all so beautiful and I am very THANKFUL!

A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future.

THANKFUL

I am thankful that I don't already have everything
because if I did, what would there be to look forward to?
I am thankful when I don't know something
for it gives me the opportunity to learn.
I am thankful for the difficult times
because during those times I grow.
I am thankful for my limitations
because it gives me opportunities for improvement.
I am thankful for each new challenge
because it builds my strength and character.
I am thankful when I'm tired and weary
because it means that I've made an effort.
I am thankful for all good with which I've been blessed throughout my life.
