DAY 14

Daughter . . . If ever you need to talk, to share a laugh, a dream, a smile; to be comforted or reassured, to be understood . . .  Remember, my shoulder is there for your head, your secrets are safe and my door is always open.

DAY 15

Dear Daughter, I worry sometimes that I pushed too hard when you were growing up - wanting so much for you and trying to make sure you had all those things that I didn't when I was a child. But I hope that I never made you feel that I expected too much . . . for no matter what you become or what you achieve, what matters most to me is that you're happy and that I'm never without your love.  I'll always be here for you . . . no matter what you do.

DAY 16

When you are happy, I'll love you with a joyful heart. When you are sad, I'll love you with a heart made a little heavier by your tears. When you are right, I'll love you with a heart filled with pride. When you are wrong, I'll love you with a heart that has learned acceptance. When you succeed, I'll love you with a cheering heart. When you fail, I'll love you with a heart that rewards the efforts you've made. When you dream, I'll love you with an encouraging heart. When you give up, I'll love you with a heart that is strong enough for both of us. When you are simply you, in whatever mood or phase of your life, I'll love you with all my heart and more than you'll ever know. L. Morrison

DAY 17

When you encounter difficulties and contradictions, do not try to break them, but bend them with gentleness and time. . .

DAY 18

You have the ability to become all you are capable of becoming. Forget problems that don't matter anymore and worries that will wash away on the shore of tomorrow. Determine your own worth by yourself, and do not be dependent on another's judgment of you. Dare to dream, and live those dreams, for it is then that you can begin to realize your true destiny. Live life fully with thankfulness and joy for all the gifts you've been given.

DAY 19

It is so important to choose your own lifestyle and not let others choose it for you. S.P. Schutz

DAY 20

May there always be happiness in your life. Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves.

DAY 21

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.

DAY 22

Your life can be what you want it to be... You'll make it through whatever comes along.  Within you are so many answers. Understand, have courage, be strong.

DAY 23

"Special" is a word that is used to describe something one-of-a-kind like a hug or a sunset or a person who spreads love with a smile or kind gesture. "Special" describes people who act from the heart and keep in mind the hearts of others. "Special" applies to something that is admired and precious and which can never be replaced. "Special" is the word that best describes you. Teri Fernandez

DAY 24

I am always here to understand you. I am always here to laugh with you. I am always here to cry with you. I am always here to talk to you. I am always here to think with you. I am always here to plan with you. Even though we might not always be together please know that I am always here to love you. Susan Polis Schutz

DAY 25

Santana's offical 1st day on the floor. She begins her 12 hour shifts. I think she enjoyed it but maybe a little tiring!

DAY 26

It's been a little more than 3 weeks now, and she's settled in to her routine and of course I've settled back into mines here but I'm starting to feel that I need to plan a visit. Maybe in about another month or so...

DAY 27 ~ some news from Beaumont, TX

Kohl's plans to reopen next Wednesday  By THE ENTERPRISE  Beaumont's Kohl's department store - heavily damaged by an Aug. 18 tornado - is scheduled to reopen next Wednesday, a company spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.  Store workers have been compensated for time lost because of the storm and have worked during the store's down time to repair damages and prepare for reopening.  Non-commercial damage estimates from the storm - which also struck Wal-Mart, Parkdale Mall and other stores along the Dowlen Road corridor - are less than $500,000, according to estimates from the Southwestern Insurance Information Service.

DAY 28 ~ Texas News

Texas woman dies, had 300 grandchildren  By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS  Gregoria Martinez, 94, might seem like your typical grandma. She made quilts for her grandchildren, encouraged them to go to church, prayed for them, and gave advice.  Except the Vernon grandma didn't have just a handful of grandchildren when she died Tuesday.  She had nearly 300.  Ninety-eight were grandchildren; 164 were great-grandchildren and 16 were great-great-grandchildren - all descendants of her own 11 offspring.  That's without counting her three stepchildren or any of their descendants - or the three great-great grandchildren currently on the way. The family purposely underestimated the total count, but felt if all were included it could be as high as 500.  Actually, they have been losing track. Now, with nearly half the family attending the funeral Wednesday, family members passed out index cards to update names and phone numbers while they had their chance.  Martinez's survivors packed the 500-seat St. Mary's Catholic Church in Quanah.  "Her numbers are pretty astounding," said Jesse Jalomo of his mother-in-law. "It's not no misprint."  The devout Catholic woman, whose husband, Ponciano, died at the age of 94 sometime after their 50th wedding anniversary, "could fill up our elementary school in Quanah with all the great-grandchildren and the great-great-grandchildren," Jalamo said.  And she knew practically all of them.

DAY 36

She was off today and so decided to take care of picking her health insurance plans, etc. We needed to do a 3 way call with the advisors, but neither her or I could figure out how to accomplish a 3 way. She called the advisor and had her 3 way me in and we got busy. We picked her health plan, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance , long term disability, etc. She will have some awesome coverage and it will only cost her about $108 a month, she is so lucky...

DAY 37

Rain, wet streets and cars just don't mix well. First car accident, only a "fender bender" thank God and in Lake Charles so at least she was close to the family. Police report filed, no citations given, what a nice police officer especially since she rear ended the other person who had slam on their breaks at the last minute and she slid into their bumper. No major damage, just a cracked bumper on the other vehicle as I understand.

DAY 101 ~ Adventurous

Today, Santana decided to drive to Lafayette, Louisiana, to look up some family members who she hasn't seen (or better yet, who hasn't seen her) since she was a really little girl. She visited her grandmothers twin sister, brother and others. I think she had a really great time and from what I remember of all of them, I know they smothered her in love.

DAY 105

My heart is filled with excitement and joy as Santana journeys her way home today for a visit. I can't wait to see her and to be able to gather the family together for a few memorable days before she has to return to Texas... God be with her and keep her safe as she travels via car to Houston and then via airplane to Phoenix.

DAY 109

She just arrive and now she has left to return to Texas... I HATE THIS and I will never ever get use to it. I want her to come back home, please God open a job for her somewhere in Phoenix. This hurts way too much and I don't feel as if we had enough time together. I don't feel as if I hugged her enough or told her how much I miss her enough or whatever, it just wasn't ENOUGH and now I have to face the Thanksgiving Holiday and possibly Christmas without her. Please God keep her safe as she travels.
