BakerStone Pizza Oven Box

Saturday, April 30, 2016

Turn your gas grill into an outdoor pizza oven...Such a fun night with the family making personal pizzas on the patio with our BakerStone Pizza Oven Box.  Successful first run thanks to our very own personal Chef. After pre-heating our gas grill for about 30 minutes, we placed the box on top and baked about ten 12-inch pizza in quick succession. It really made some tasty authentic pizzas, FAST, turning out pizzas in about 4 minutes with crispy crusts adn nicely cooked toppings.

The To Do List...

Thursday, April 28, 2016

Sometimes you have to just call it a day even when your to do list isn't done.  This happens to me all the time.  But there comes a point when we just have to surrender the list adn just be done for that day so we can spend time filling our hearts and lives with joy too.  Those things are just as important as the items on your list...  Spent a majority of the day lining up special events for the upcoming fall season... The application process can be so tedious.

Custom Sign

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

I'm so excited about my new custom sign from Twelve94Designs.  This entryway space has been empty for over two years now because I have been looking for that "perfect something" to place here... until a few weeks ago.  I was in a Michaels store adn saw a sign that read, "What I love most about my home is the family I share it with."  I have seen this similar saying everywhere with "who I share it with" but never with the word family.  I instantly knew that this was what I wanted in my front entryway.  The sign at Michael's was to small for my entryway space and not the right colors.  So I snapped a picture of the sign and sent a text message off to Kristin immediately asking her if she would make me a custom sized sign for my space... SHE NAILED IT!  And the frame makes it even more perfect.

If any of you are looking for a great custom sign company, head over to Twelve94Designs, I'm pretty certain she will do any size or print you can imagine, and the quality is amazing!  Thank you Kristin, I can't wait tto open my front door to vistors...  so until I have any, well I guess the UPS and FedEx guys will ahve to do.

3 Week Check-up

Monday, April 25, 2016

I had my 3 week check up this morning... As you can see in the picture below, the slide on the left was the original break, and the slide on the right is the current break.  In three weeks time, the bone instead of healing has broken more. Roll-a-Bout scooter delivered today; blood work tomorrow; EKG on Wednesday... Yep, surgery on Monday.  I have been struggling all day..

The strength I will need in the upcoming weeks for all the unfinished lists, sink full of dishes, loads of laundry, upcoming events... You know that feeling of being so harried and hurried, because we make yesterday and tomorrow our business, instead of just being concern with today (yep, that's the one)?  And if we are honest with ourselves we know there are some items on our agendas that God didn't put there anyway.  Hmmmmmm!

So through my struggle today this is the message I've received and sharing with the hope that it will also help someone else... God is telling us to stop living in our own strength and to abide in Him.  He's calling us to be still, to remain and to dwell with Him.  He's calling us to let the pursuits of the world slip from our grasp and to live each day intentionally abiding in Him.  He's calling us to stop trying to be perfect in our own strength and instead linger near Him so that He can transform us into His image.  John 15:1-27

Happy 11th Anniversary

This day is marked on my calendar, for its one of the best days of my life because on this day 11 years ago my son found his wife.  Every year this important date comes and celebrates a new set of 365 days that they have been together.  Of course, as not all days are the same, these 365 days consist of good and bad moments.  Life is full of ups and downs and yet they always manage it so well.  May the bond you share keep getting stronger.  May you continue to understand each other with love and care.  May you stay blessed all life through.  May nothing but happiness come your way.  And may this anniversary and all those to come continue to strengthen your love.

Happy 11th Anniversary Mark & Shannon, Love Mom!

Mama

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

I want to preserve her in amber, wrap her in cotton muslin and moth balls, swaddle her, vital, strong and kicking in the present.  I want her around forever but I know one day...

I received a call on Monday that my mom wasn't well.  You have to know my mom, at almost 79 years old, for her to admit to anyone that she's not feeling well, it's serious.  At some point during the day she got worse and took a fall.  By Tuesday morning there wasn't much change and so I called my husband to come home and take me to the airport.  Not living in the same state s.....  My family wanted to know how I would make a trip across multiple states (part flight/part driving) with a broken foot... Me: "How could I not?"  I arrived late last night, by then she had been admitted to the hospital.  I drove straight there and hobbled my way to room 227.  Her smile lit up the room, seeing me walking in on crutches and a bootcast, for her that was the best medicine of all!  #noregrets

At almost 52, I am at the confronting age where the realizaton that my parents are no longer invincible starts to hit.  Although my mom is quite capable and in realtively good health, some tasks are becoming a bit more than she can easily handle.  Grasping the concept of mortality is undoubtedly a challenging one when it applies to the people you love most in the world.  But if you are fortunate enough to have enough time to tackle the issue it can be an opportunity to make the moments count.  I'm talking about being present in your relationship, making the effort to increase your presence in their lives - call more often, visit as much as you can, appreciate and understand everything about them.

The best gift we can give them at this point in their lives is to make visits and calls more memorable and enjoyable.  Every day is precious and is an opportunity to enjoy them, to learn from them and to see the world through their eyes.  Spend time talking, getting to know them on a deeper level, these hours are irreplaceable and brings a little happiness to them.

Still to this day my parents are the people who always remind me that I am loved, special to someone and have someone to go to, no matter what.  It's impossible to imagine a world where they aren't there...

Good Enough is the New Perfect

Sunday, April 10, 2016

Rained out of our event today soooooo this is how I'm going to spend the rest of this rainy day ~ sitting with my broken foot iced and elevated, oh and the remote...

"Good enough is the new perfect!"  This quote is my new mantra for the time being as I heal and remind myself to extend a large heaping of grace to myself more often these days in my duties as a wife, mama, grandmother, business owner, and a friend.  We can't do it all and there always will be more that we could do or that needs to get done. Let's stop the crazy internal dialogue at the end of every day of what we have for tomorrow.  Let's stop and celebrate today and what already has been done more often!  I hope this encourages you!

He Just Makes Life Better, You Know?

Saturday, April 9, 2016

I think back to the story of us over the last 28 years, our ups and downs.  We were far from perfect.  Growing up you read all the fairy tale endings adn think you'll have it the same easey way.  Life is funny sometimes.  We never knew we would end up here.  Marriage is effort, commitment, trust, and understanding when to admit something needs to be changed.  I will always fight for us Mark.  You complete me and I love you.

What Makes You Smile?

Right now, before the day goes any further, think of something that makes you smile.  There is always something, no matter how bad yesterday might have been... Your day will be better and you will feel better facing the rest of today with a positive mind.  Take charge of your happiness!

Messy Bun!

Friday, April 8, 2016

Sometimes the easiest things in life are actually the hardest... like putting your hair in a messy bun.

Needless to say, I have been really fatigues the past few days and a little less motivated... I've had to scale back to the basics, putting one step in front of the other in this healing journey... but I am reminded today that "progress doesn't have to be perfect to be powerful."  Anyone else feel me?!?  Sooooo, no time to deal with hair so messy bun it is.  Not sure if I'm pulling it off or not but let's be real, some days... (crutches, boot cast, 5 day event, late to bed, early to rise) this is all I've got! Can I get an AMEN?!

Happy 32nd Birthday Shannon!

Thursday, April 7, 2016

My admiration for my daughter-in-law transcends her being the wife of my son and mother of my grandchildren. I love and respect her as a woman and as a daughter. It has given me as much pleasure watching her "grow up" as it has watching my own children...  Shannon, I think you are amazing. Your kindness is inspiring and has blessed our whole family.  You are loving to all of us and that means the world to me.  You are thoughtful to those around you, and that is the kind of wife I had hoped Mark would find. You love Jesus, which is the best part of all because that is everything.

People like to joke about the mother-in-law relationship, as if it's destined to be filled with strife.  But I think we've been the exception.  Yes, family dynamics can be difficult... Feelings get hurt, and people get frustrated, but we've chosen to keep a tone of forgiveness amongst us, we have found our common ground, because we both love Mark and we both love the Lord.

As I have said before, you were chosen by God to be a part of our family, and I have enjoyed sharing life with you, creating memories... So today we celebrate you and I hope you feel loved because you truly are...

XOXO, Your Mom-in-Law

When a door shuts... Find a window!

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Besides the pain and limited mobility, dealing with this injury derailing my normal routine is emotionally grueling and it makes me feel like my fitness level is on a steady decline.  But there's always a way to work around an injury... I got back in the gym this morning and did a few things that didn't put weight on my foot. #noexcuses

I Got a Boot!

Tuesday, April 5, 2016
