Shhh... IT'S A SURPRISE SO GIVE ME A HOLLER

Thursday, March 22, 2012

About 3 weeks ago my kids basically told me that I "had to" do something to celebrate Mark's 50th birthday. Keep in mind here that this was during our 11 day stint out at the Arabian Horse Show, which immediately followed Shamesha & Reggie's wedding, which came on the heals of our 8 day stint at the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction, then throw in bridal parties, bachelorette parties, Christmas, Thanksgiving... Now I know that I am telling this tale backwards but the purpose is because I haven't stopped this extremely busy train I've been on since November, which was my total hesitation in putting together another event but how do you say no to your kids? And so here we are today, ready to tell the story through pictures of the celebration of a man who touches the lives of so so so many people... and how all those he loves, came together to share this very special event in his life.

LOVE THEM ALL!

A good friend and brother to Mark, in addition to agreeing to host this party at his home, helped me to pulled together alot of the details in pulling this off.  When we decided to do this, the first text went out to John and from there the planning started.  John called Mark immediately and told him a very TALL TALE!  He needed Mark to cater a surprise birthday party for his girlfriend Bonnie, unknowingly he would actually spend the next few weeks planning a meal for his own 50th birthday bash.  Lil' Mark and I took it from there...

THE ARRIVAL OF THE GUESTS!

WAITING FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOY!
John lead Mark on a merry chase... he was to go pick up the "Birthday Girl Bonnie" but delay her until John called him telling him to come to the house, thus giving us time to finish some last minute details but really allowing the guests time to arrive and be hidden, hehehe! Still having NO CLUE at all that Bonnie was delaying him by not being ready when he arrived.  So here we are all waiting...

CAN YOU TELL HE JUST ARRIVED???

THE BIRTHDAY BOY ARRIVES!

Now what you don't know yet, is that when Mark left here to make his pick up, the sign below said "Happy Birthday Bonnie"

LET THE PARTY BEGIN!

This is always my favorite part... A Family Memory!

DINNER, DRINKS, DESSERTS & DETAILS

DRINKS

The look on their faces is because of the old vintage sodas in longneck bottles, that many of us hadn't seen since we were kids.
Bubble Up, Dad's Root Beer, Nesbitt's Orange, NuGrape Soda... they were a hit!

DESSERTS
I did another themed dessert bar... and it was also very well LIKED!  We kind of had an all around theme for the party, if you haven't realized yet what it was then I will go ahead and tell you:
Vintage Western/Cowboy

Some of the fun and delicious stuff on the dessert bar besides the birthday cake by Barb's Bakery was
Cupcake Jars & orginal cupcakes (velvet, vanilla and cookies & cream) - Cookies (oatmeal, choc chip and white choc chip) - Cake Pops (vanilla and chocolate) - Texas Brownies by The Cupcake Cafe - Banana Pudding by Shelia Dickerson - Homemade Ice Cream in Mason Jars by Doc Brown - and lots of fun candies also from the 70's (bubble gum, cigarettes, gold mine gum, sugar daddy's, root beer barrels, black & red licorice, now laters) found at Sweeties Candy in Chandler.

DETAILS

I hope you enjoy the few pictures that show so of my decorating details. I had so much fun Junkin' It for these precious vintage finds.

Mason jars were used alot throughout the party, from our drinking glasses that also held the napkins and utensils for guests, for the cupcakes and ice cream and even as some decorative pieces with flowers. I can think of 100's of things to do with mason jars and now I literally have 100's of mason jars to do things with, Haha!

WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOU!
Without our wonder HB Catering staff, we could never have pulled this off.  These gentleman and ladies are just another part of our extended family.  They always put their hearts into any events we do and we love and appreciate more than we will every be able to express. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!
