Today we celebrated the homegoing of Reggie's mom. Mark and I were there with all the kids. It was a very sad day and our hearts broke for Reggie and his family. We love you Reggie!!!

Pamela Marie Sheffield was born June 19, 1954 in San Diego, CA to the union of Jack Leroy Sheffield and Patricia Tucker... Pamela leaves to cherish her memory her mother Patricia; 1 brother Joseph; 2 sisters Emma & Roberta; 10 children: Lisa, Simantha, Odessa, Robert, Ricky, Glenda, Katra, Reinaldo "Reggie", Lenetta and Pamela Sheffield, Jr.; also 29 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends...

God Saw You Getting Tired
and a cure was not to be
so He put his arms around you
and whispered "Come to Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay
A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Ken has Tumor Removed

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Iwebema has benign tumor removed:

TEMPE, Ariz. -- A benign, baseball-size tumor has been removed from the chest of Arizona Cardinals defensive end Kenny Iwebema.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt says the surgery was performed on Monday. The tumor was discovered during routine X-rays on April 30, the day before the start of minicamp.

Iwebema showed no symptoms and that the condition could have been life-threatening had it gone undetected, Whisenhunt said after the team's voluntary workout on Wednesday.

"Because it didn't show up the year before, it appeared to be something that had grown very rapidly," Whisenhunt said.

Iwebema, a fourth-round draft pick out of Iowa in 2008, can begin some rehabilitation work in two to three weeks but isn't expected to resume football activity for six to eight weeks.

Doctors were able to use a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure to remove the tumor through Iwebema's side.

"It was very close," Whisenhunt said. "Had it [the tumor] been a little bit bigger, they would have had to crack his chest, which would have put him out for the year."

Trainer Tom Reed said there was no sign of the tumor in X-rays taken when Iwebema was at the rookie combine 14 months ago. Iwebema was feeling fine when he showed up for minicamp.
"He had absolutely no symptoms," Reed said, "no shortness of breath, no weakness to the upper extremities, nothing like that."
Once a person experiences such symptoms, Reed said, the tumor has grown to put pressure on the lungs or heart. The growth was located between the sternum and the heart.
Iwebema participated in the last two days of minicamp, where all the work is non-contact. Further tests showed that the tumor was growing rapidly and had to be removed as soon as possible.
Had the tumor gone undetected, there was a danger of shock to the heart with a hard hit to the sternum, Reed said.

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Shamesha picked Carrabba's Italian Grill in Chandler for her birthday dinner. We were all there except Shanel who's in Colorado for her Senior trip and Ken whose recovering from surgery. We missed them but I think we all ate enough to cover their absence. . .

Uniquely Designed to be Mom

God has uniquely designed women to be mothers, and the greatest way a mother can love her children is to love their father. The Bible teaches that God has created a woman with an innate and special ability to nurture and care for her family.

Therefore, mothers are the primary people whom God designed to love, nurture, and mentor children. Without question, this is one of the reasons why God so often insists that children are to honor their mothers. So Leviticus 19:3 declares, “Every one of you shall revere his mother.”

We believe these crucial responsibilities of nurturing and caring for children should be met before a mother contemplates any other duties. This is more difficult today than it was a few decades ago, of course, because our culture has seriously devalued the role of a mother by placing greater significance on activities outside the home than on those inside the home.

Nevertheless, we ought to elevate motherhood to its rightfully high place by pointing out its exalted value in God’s economy of the family. In our culture we ought to encourage mothers to model love for God and His Word, to love their husband, and to love their children. It’s what they were designed for.
